The city of Luxor is actually built on the 4.000 year old ruins of the ancient city of Thebes, and is located 675 km south of Cairo. It is unique in that it holds a wealth of ancient sites and has been attracting tourists since such bygone times as those of the late dynasties of the Greek and Roman periods.

Today's visitors come by cruise boat, or by plane, or even on an overnight train.

There are many attractions, and most people have heard of them well before they ever came to Egypt: the majestic temples of Luxor and Karnak, and the Valley of the Kings, where countless Pharoahs were buried, including Tutankhamun of the gold mask.

Today, Luxor boasts many amenities and facilities for the thousands of visitors from diverse countries and cultures. The city has a variety of hotels, bars and restaurants to accommodate a wide range of tastes. There is even a championship golf course as a change from sightseeing.

Greatly adding to the charm of Luxor is the fact that many official and government buildings are of a "pharaonic" style of architecture.
