Fujairah is the only emirate that lies on the eastern side of the UAE, along the Gulf of Oman, while all the six other emirates are along the Arabian Gulf.

The historical importance of Fujairah goes back to the period that preceded the birth of Christ. It was known in the old ages as the land of the sea giants, and was the first home for immigrants who came from the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula and who were later known as the Phoenicians.

In the past, the two main occupations in Fujairah were fishing and agriculture.

Fujairah's unspoiled natural beauty reveals many facets of rich and beautiful nature: mountains, waterfalls, oases, long beaches and valleys. It is also a land of water springs, both cold and warm.

One of the major cities in Fujairah is Dibba, where the coastal plains are rich and fresh water is plenty. Dibba is known for its many ancient castles, fortresses and remains.
