Environment protection actions. 1. Iberotel is committed to do their best to protect the environment We follow the guidelines of TUI Environmental Policy. This policy has been adapted to fit the local circumstances. We are currently taking concrete actions on the following: Solid waste separation and recycling. Energy saving and conservation. Various actions Four main new activities have taken place in 2003/2004: The introduction of a new environmental conservation checklist. The introduction of a detailed energy saving checklist. The beginning of a realistic solid waste separation system, which leads to actual recycling of most of the solid waste produced in our hotels. The regular inspections of our hotels from a health, safety, and environment aspect. Consequently, we have been able to improve substantially in all our hotels. We are members of all local NGOs, and involved with the various organizations and authorities related to environmental protection. We believe that we succeeded to increase our employees' awareness towards the protection of the environment. 2. Waste disposal Our hotels are separating, and organizing the recycling of over 5 000 tons of solid waste per year. We are working very closely on this project with a specialized organization (the Zebaleen) based in Cairo that insures that all our solid waste is recycled. By doing so we are also helping a needing community. The products that are efficiently recycled are: Plastics. Glass Cans Paper and cardboard Clothing materials Most of our hotels are also composting their organic waste. The compost is being used to naturally fertilize our gardens. It is estimated that 90% of our solid waste is recycled. This has a major positive impact on the environment. Iberotel is proud to be the leader in this area, in Egypt. We are doing the best we can to put pressure on suppliers to limit packaging and wrapping to a minimum. We also have a program to reduce paper and office supplies to the minimum. 3.Resources saving: This is an area where we are achieving good results, and most of our hotels have: Desalination plants Wastewater treatment plants feeding efficient irrigation systems. Modern equipment keeping energy waste to the minimum. We also have 200 points hotel checklist to monitor, and reduce energy consumption. 4. Various environment protection actions. We use the best available, environment friendly chemicals. We use local materials, and the best possible equipment when building new hotels. All our hotels have regular clean up activities of their area. Part of our quality program includes planting a tree for return guest. We cooperate with international, national and local organizations, and keep up to date with latest trends. We are members of the local NGOs in Sharm, Marsa Alam, and Hurghada areas. 5. Environmental communication As part of our environment standards, our staffs are regularly trained to understand the importance of the environmental protection. We are also communicating the importance of environment protection to our guests. We promote the participation of our guests in various environment protection activities.
