Background
Iberotel Coraya Beach Resort is built in a Nubian style. With its 800 meters long sandy beach, the resort enjoys a unique blend of both southern Egypt and the Red Sea environments. Just like the typical Nubian houses, the 364 hotel rooms are built in groups of bungalows, with a spectacular sea or garden view, prepared to host our guests with their elegant furniture and comfortable facilities. The serene water of the Red Sea veils exquisite scenery of marvellous coral reefs.

Energy
The resort has followed a strong monitoring program of electricity consumption which includes daily meter readings and spreadsheet-based tracking. The resort does a good job of using natural daylight and keeping unneeded lights off in the day where possible.
All our resort equipment is kept clean and maintained regularly to reduce the energy consumption.
All the rooms have a control switch for the power supply and for the air condition, so the temperature of the air condition can be regulated individually.
Public area lights are switched off according to an energy saving plan.

Water
The resort makes its control on water consumption throughout a main meter on the main water supply and many other meters on the water supplies in the kitchen, the swimming pool, and the laundry in order to monitor well the consumption in each area related with its operation.
The consumption has an average of 0.8 m3 per room occupied per day.
To solve the water production problem the resort has a desalination plant for the water to use.
The resort also has a water treatment plant for the used water. This water is biologically cleaned and used for watering the plants of the hotel.
The resort water consumption is under permanent monitoring. In case of an unusual, sudden increase of the water consumption the resort can take necessary action immediately.
For saving water and chemicals, the resort changes the bed sheets every third day. Towels are changed when the guest put them on the floor in the bathroom.
Wastewater coming from the hotel goes through a treatment process to treat the water biologically; it is then used for the irrigation.

Waste
The resort has followed a program of waste separation as below:
Paper Waste
The resort avoids paper waste. All paper is used on both sides, Memos are sent by the computer without making hard copies. Instead of faxes the resort send e-mails whenever possible. In restaurants and bars the resort avoids to a maximum extent the use of paper napkins, paper coasters and place mats. Instead the resort uses natural fabrics like cotton.
In the public toilets, the resort offers hot air hand dryers to be used as an alternative to paper hand towels.
Non-Returnable Packaging
Wherever possible the resort gives up non-returnable packaging, for example, in the restaurant the resort does not use packed jam, honey, yoghurt, ketchup, sugar, salt & pepper. In the guest rooms and public toilets the resort uses soap dispensers.
Organic Waste
The resort separates organic waste from other waste. The organic waste from the kitchen and gardens are composted and used as fertilizer for our plants.
Plastic Waste
The resort separates the plastic waste from the other waste. It transfer the plastic waste to Quseir were it is collected and delivered to Cairo for recycling.

Chemicals
The chemicals used for cleaning and washing are environmental friendly products. The resort avoids as much as possible sprays and chemical treatments against vermin.

Green House
In our green house, we cultivate our own herbs and plants. After growing up, the plants are planted in the hotel gardens. The herbs are used from our cooks in the kitchen.

Staff
The resort has focused on the staff factor to reach its environment goals throughout publishing many articles of environment issues and posting them on the staff board. Organizing clean up campaigns on the beach or surrounding valley sharing with guests.
For all new comers joining the hotel, the orientation training includes 10 sessions on the environment awareness, property committee and activities.
